Denon headphones

My role was to redesign the app for the Denon PerL Pro, UX, UI, animations, and flows.

Overview

After acquiring Nura, there was a need to redesign the app to accomodate the new requirements for the Denon brand identity and app experience.

Process


  1. Understand

    • User testing sessions to uncover major and minor pain points in the existing, re-skinned Nura app.

  2. Analyse

    • After analysing the user testing results and doing some research online on the user feedback on the existing app, all majr and minor points of improvement were listed.

  3. Identify, prioritise, and refine

    • Changes were labeled, prioritised and taken into action.

  4. Initiate

    • Major flows such as sign up, setup, profile creation were created.

  5. Refine & define

    • After aligning with the internal stakeholders, screens were created, tested, built into a flow.

  6. Validate

    • finalising designs, adding last touches, creating animations.

  7. Finalize and clean up

    • design files, ensuring that screens and components are integrated into the design system and ready for development.

Understand

User testing sessions with 8 people to uncover pains, needs, areas of improvement on the existing app.

Analyse

  • Connection and Pairing Difficulties: A significant number of users struggled with the device pairing process. Switching between Bluetooth settings and the app caused confusion, leading users to be uncertain about their connection status.

  • Progress Feedback During Profile Creation: The loading indicator during profile setup was perceived as too lengthy and lacked clarity about its progress. Users were left unsure of how long the process would take or what stages it involved.

  • Feature Demo Engagement: After profile creation, users wanted to test the app with their own music to evaluate the difference, but the provided demo didn’t meet their expectations. They found it unhelpful in showcasing the feature's true value.

  • Volume Adjustment Need: During the initial feature introduction, several users sought the ability to adjust the volume but were unable to do so, which detracted from their overall experience.

Identify, prioritise, and refine


in real-time with PM, Dev, and Infrastructure teams to build flowcharts, identify technical no-go areas, and explore feasible options from a technical perspective.
